Week 1 Sermon Questions For Groups

Our Move

We’ve seen God do some amazing things so far in 2015. Approximately 171 people have said “yes” to Christ, the opportunity to move into new buildings in Callaway and the Beach campuses and so much more. The energy in the church is palpable and the future seems bright. I never imagined 17 years ago when I started this church what God would do in and through Northstar. In fact, our biggest problem is working through the details of what God is doing. So where do we go from here? Our mission remains: To help the whole world find and follow Jesus. We are also passionate about helping people become who God purposed them to be.

Something To Talk About:

  • Worship: People like our worship. It stirs them. It engages people. They’re blown away by our welcoming atmosphere. They even seem to like our teaching. God is speaking to them in ways they never dreamed possible. The best part is, lives are being changed. And that will always be the goal.
  • Fellowship: The first-century believers “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship” (Acts 2:42). The early Christians were being taught the Word of God, and they wanted to share it with others. Our goal in fellowship is for people to be free to be themselves.
  • Ministry: We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus. God is simply calling us to be faithful to what He has given for us as a church to do. Ask God “What am I doing with what God has given me?” Seek to be who you are and to be faithful with what He has given you to do.
  • Discipleship: Some people believe that discipleship means a good educational experience from the pulpit. Others view it as a class for people to attend if they desire to be leaders of the church. We simply believe that Christ is the key to growing a church and growing people: helping people take the next step in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Missions: The word “mission” captures something essential about the church. At Northstar, we recognize our essentially missional character, and we are fully invested in the mission to which God has sent us. It starts with relationships. It ends with helping the whole world find and follow Jesus by joining God in what He’s doing at Northstar.

  1. Habakkuk 2:1-4 says: “And the Lord answered me: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” In other words, it’s important that we understand what God has called us to do and who he has called us to be and that it is easy and clear enough that everyone can share in it’s fulfillment. Do you believe that God has a vision for your life? Do you believe you have a role to play in His vision for Northstar?
  2. How do you see yourself involved in church in the future?
  3. Why do you believe the early church experienced such rapid growth? Are the strengths and challenges they faced isolated to them or do you see them in your own life?
  4. Read Acts 2:42; What does it say to you about your commitment to Christ, and His church?
  5. Read Acts 19:20; What of this verse should still apply to our daily lives?
  6. Prayerfully consider a one-time vision gift, above your normal tithe.

Take One Thing Home with You
Giving to God’s work is an act of worship. Northstar people have always been passionate about having a gospel impact locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. And for that I am so thankful. Northstar is a faith community that exhibits a willingness to give, serve, and go where you are needed. On Sunday, I asked that you prayerfully consider taking another step with me, another step toward reaching the communities where we have campuses. I ask that you consider a one-time gift to further build-up our vision efforts to provide permanent locations for Callaway and the Beach campuses, and the technology we need to simulcast the weekly message to all campuses. Whatever your decision, thank you for your generous, steadfast giving in the name of Jesus Christ.

I also ask that you continue to pray for the church leadership. As we look toward the future, we are prayerfully exploring ways to further reach the people of our region through additional campuses and community missional efforts.
