These lyrics from Hillsong United’s new record ‘Zion’ speak straight to my soul:
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior”
I remember this being my prayer the moment I truly gave my life to Christ – little did I know that this prayer would literally lead me deeper than I ever thought possible. I’ve always been one who was fascinated by water and all that it encompasses; it’s beauty – it’s purpose – it’s being. Simply beautiful. My favorite thing about it is that no matter where you are on this earth you can find it. It’s the same substance in every language. Just like God. He’s everywhere. He’s all things.
I had a friend who asked me once how deep I was willing to go. I remember being puzzled by the question and asked her to expand. She then explained how some people only follow Jesus to the extent of getting their feet wet. Others up to their ankles. Others their knees. Some just enough to not get their hair wet. And others are all in – head first. I remember smiling and without a split second I responded with, “Oh, I’m all in.” And from that day forward it has been a daily prayer of mine.
Ladies – I am here to tell you that this is not an easy prayer. With boldness comes sacrifice and that is exactly what I have experienced. God has told me “no” many times when I have longed for a “yes.” He has completely uprooted me from everything I ever knew and led me to the unknown time and time again. He has left me frustrated, brokenhearted, and at a loss for words at moments. But it is in those moments when I am left completely soaked, exhausted, and broken that he grabs my heart like no other. That he reveals to me a new and exciting place he longs to take me. That he reminds me that he is who he says he is.
I sit here with a beautiful smile on my face because I know God is answering my prayer daily. I asked him to lead me deeper – and each day, each season, each year he does. And goodness am I grateful. You see – the deeper he leads you the more beauty you discover. You learn things about him and who he created you to be. You find gentleness, rest, hope, restoration, direction, courage, love, joy, peace, and kindness like you never knew before.
Proverbs 27:19 says, “As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.” Does God truly have your heart? Do you believe that as he calls you to walk deeper with him that he will walk with you just like he did with Peter?
I challenge you as women to step into the beauty that God has for you. Open your heart to a man who wants to walk with you and be ready for your heart will be filled with a kind of love that will never leave you.
