Today we were challenged to fast and pray for the 21 days leading up to Easter, asking God to bring more people to our church and save more people than any other day in our church’s history.

So how does not eating certain foods (fasting) effect our prayers and ultimately what God does in our community and church on Easter?

The answer to that question is found in Matthew 17:19-21 when Jesus answers his disciple’s question after they had been humiliated because their prayers for a demon possessed man had not been answered. Let’s listen in on the conversation after the humiliation:

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?” And He *said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

We often miss the supernatural because of the littleness of our faith. I don’t want to miss God’s work of power, so I have to ask the question, “How does my faith grow?

Our faith deepens through our prayers. Our prayers deepen through fasting.

I would like to invite you to join us in prayer and fasting for the 21 days leading up to Easter (March 10-30).

Remember, there are some things that God wants to do, that He will not do, until we seek him through prayer AND fasting.
